Create the antidote

Innovations can only create lasting disruption when they create the antidote.

Napster inspired the shift from analog to digital. But it created more problems for the industry it entered, and it was gone.

AOL Instant Messenger changed the way we socialized on the internet. But when the internet went mobile, it couldn’t keep up, and it was gone.

TiVo fueled the shift from scheduled programming to anytime anywhere entertainment. But when cable companies rolled out DVRs, it eliminated features and stalled solutions. After On-Demand television came out, it couldn’t keep up, and it faded from relevancy.

There’s still plenty of room for tech that impacts. But it’ll never disrupt if it can’t solve a problem much better than the status quo they replace.
